Description: By 1908 the Ruby mine was the largest cyanide proposition in Montana. Ruby Gulch property is located south of Alder Gulch containing a lead 600 feet lone and 75-127 feet wide. In 1904 the Ruby Gulch Mining Company was organized by Whitcomb and Philips. In 1905 the mill was expanded. The Ruby Gulch was worked continuously. The financial yieldings were over $1,000,000. In 1910 the mill burned down, to be immediately replace by a cyanide leaching plant. The mill shut down in the 1920’s due to high cost of production. This mine came alive with Virginia City, but never was sensational. It still stands, and a few people live here. See Alder Gulch, Virginia City and Nevada City for area history. "
